THE INTERVIEW:

KNL - Hi Efram! How old are you?

Featured Kid - 4

KNL - How long have you been locked?

Featured Kid - 14 months (at time of interview)

KNL - How were your locs started?

Featured Kid - Comb coils

KNL - What made you decide you wanted to lock your hair?

Featured Kid - We like the way they look, and we figured that they would complement our son's personality.

KNL - How are your locs viewed by your peers?

Featured Kid - Efram gets a lot of compliments on his hair. All of our friends and his friends think it's cool. The only people we know of who don't like it are family members who think that children should look very conventional.

KNL - How do you feel about your locs?

Featured Kid - "I like it. Yes."

KNL - If you get or have gotten them, how did/do you react to negative remarks? We haven't gotten any, aside from family members who have told

Featured Kid - We haven't gotten any, aside from family members who have told us (as parents) that they don't like the way it looks. We've basically shrugged our shoulders and said, "Efram likes them, and so do we."

KNL - What advice would you give to other kids who are locked or may want to but get negative comments (or for the parents answering, any advice to other parents who want to lock their children's hair or the children themselves)?

Featured Kid - We have had a very good experience with Efram's locks. He hated getting his hair cut, so locs have worked well for him. We live in the midwest, in a less than progressive area, and we have not encountered any negativity about his locs. Kids and adults comment favorably on them, and they seem to attract kids to him. Kids think locs are cool, so they think Efram is cool.

KNL - Thanks for the interview Efram (and Mom)! We're sure that it will inspire many other kids and parents who read it!
